Pabna, Aug 17 (UNB) – A driver of an auto-rickshaw was killed by unidentified muggers at Bohalbaria in Santhia upazila early Friday.
The victim was identified as Sobuj Hossain, 30, son of Khoaj Uddin of village Tangbari in Bera upazila.
Santhia thana sub inspector Monsur Ali said a gang of armed muggers in the guise of passengers hired an auto-rickshaw at Santhia at 12 midnight and were going to Pabna.
The armed muggers, at one stage, stabbed the auto-rickshaw driver Sobuj leaving him critically injured and tried to snatch away the vehicle at Bohalbaria.
Hearing hue and cry of Sobuj, locals rushed to the spot and caught four of the alleged muggers. The muggers were later handed over to Santhia thana police.
The injured Sobuj was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at about 7am on Friday.
Santhia upazila auto-rickshaw station president Abdus Sattar filed a case accusing the four muggers with Santhia police station in this connection.
The arrested muggers are Saiful Islam, 27, Ameer Alam, 42, Al Amin Hossain, 20 and Mirajul Islam, 24. They were sent to jail.
