Diplomatic efforts on to bring back Mujib’s fugitive killers: Shahara
PM to lay foundation stone of Padma Bridge in Dec: Barua

Dhaka, Aug 11 (UNB) - Home Minister Shahara Khatun on Saturday said efforts are on to bring back the fugitive killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman home to complete the trial of his murder case.
“Diplomatic efforts are on to bring them back home quickly,” she told a discussion at the National Press Club.
She alleged that BNP-Jamaat had tried to foil the trial of Bangabandhu’s killers. “We had to wait 36 years to get the justice…the nation got rid of the stigma with the trial of Bangabandhu’s killers.”
Of the 12 condemned killers of Bangabandhu, five were executed on January 27, 2010 while another convict died while seeking political asylum in Zimbabwe in June 2001.
The remaining six killers Lt Col Khandaker Abdur Rashid, Lt Col Shariful Haque Dalim, Lt Col SHMB Nur Chowdhury, Lt Col AM Rashed Chowdhury, Capt Abdul Mazed and Risaldar Mosleuddin Khan remained absconding abroad.
Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal (ML) arranged the discussion in observance of Bangabandhu’s 37th death anniversary.
Industries Minister and party General Secretary Dilip Barua, Dhaka city Awami League organising secretary Shah Alam Murad, Workers Party leader Hazera Sultana and leaders of 14-party alliance spoke on the occasion.
Speaking as the chief guest, Shahara alleged that local collaborators, anti-liberation forces and killers had assassinated Bangabandhu brutally. “August 15 is a black night…it’s a night of brutality…people still get panicked remembering the night.”
She said Bangabandhu and his family members had been the victims of anti-liberation forces’ brutality.
On war crimes trial, she said the government is determined to complete the trial of war criminals in line with its election manifesto. “The Jamaat-BNP alliance is hatching conspiracy to foil the trial of war criminals.”
She alleged that they (BNP-Jamaat people) killed people, called hartal, hurled bombs at the Secretariat and torched vehicles in front of the Prime Minister’s Office in a bid to create anarchy in the country to foil the trial of war criminals. “They don’t want people to live in peace and safely.”
Shahara reiterated that no conspiracy will be able to foil the trial of war criminals. “The government won’t allow anybody to create anarchy in the country.”
She also said the government rooted out terrorism, militancy and the culture of grenade attack with its continuous efforts.
Dilip Barua urged all to come forward and strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to carry out development works in the country.
“The government has the ability to construct Padma Bridge with its own fund…Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lay the foundation stone of the bridge in December next,” Barua added.
He alleged that the opposition BNP is now conspiring to foil the implementation of the Padma Bridge project. “No conspiracy can stop that.”
