Dhaka, Aug 10 (UNB) – At least 13 people, including the Imam of a local mosque, were killed and 17 others injured as a streak of lightning struck them while saying Tarabi prayers in Dharmapasha upazila of Sunamganj district on Friday night.

The deceased were identified as Sahabuddin, 60, Imam of the mosque, Ripon, 18, Nazrul Islam, 40, Manik, Mojlemin, Gafur, 70, Nurul Islam, 60, Badsha Mia, 15, Tahed Ali, Abdus Salam, Nurul Islam, Hazrat Ali and Anwar Hossain.

Officer-in-charge of Dharmapasha Police Station Bayes Alam said the thunderbolt struck the devotees while they were saying prayers in the mosque at Sarasati village around 9:30 pm, leaving 10 dead on the spot and injuring 20 others.

Three of the injured died on the way to hospital, the OC said.

He said the injured were rushed to different clinics and hospitals, and feared the death toll from the tragic incident may rise.
