
Dhaka, Aug 5 (UNB) – In a bid to ease the sufferings of homebound passengers ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, Bangladesh Railway (BR) starts the sale of advance tickets of intercity trains on Sunday morning.
The sale of advance tickets for different destinations started at 9am and it continue till 5pm.
BR Additional Director General (operation) M Shahjahan said the advance ticket sale will continue till August 9 at Dhaka and Chittagong railway stations under the supervision of senior officials.
As per the schedule, tickets for August 14 will be sold on the opening day (Sunday) while the tickets for August 15 on August 6, tickets for August 16 on August 7, tickets for August 17 on August 8 and the tickets for August 18 will be sold on August 9.
Officials said tickets for August 19 will also be sold on the evening of August 18 if the new moon of Shawwal is not sighted.
One person will be allowed to purchase the highest number of four tickets. Tickets sold in advance from August 5 to 9 will be taken back if anyone wants to return that.
Along with the advance ones, the sale of usual tickets will continue, the officials said.
Additional Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), police and railway police have been deployed in and around the railway stations to keep the black marketers away.
