Rail communication with Ctg, Sylhet, Noakhali snapped as freight train derails

Comilla, Aug 04 (UNB) – A freight train derailed near Mainamati Ral Station in Comilla at 7 pm on Saturday disrupting the capital`s rail communications with Chittagong, Sylhet, Noakhali and Comilla for two-and-half-hours.

The master of Mainamati Rail Station said the wheels of a container carriage of a Chittagong-bound freight train from Dhaka veered off the rail tracks near the rail station at around 7 pm, snapping train communication of the capital with the rest of the south-eastern region since then.

However, no casualty was reported.

No salvage train left Kamalapur Rail Station of Dhaka or Chittagong for the spot to start salvage operation till filing this report at 9:30 pm.
