Jessore, July 20 (UNB) – Abhoynagar upazila unit BNP observed a half-day hartal peacefully protesting the killing of a local BNP leader on Friday.

Lutfur Rahman, 55, secretary general of Nawapara municipality unit of BNP, and a resident of Nawapara municipality area was gunned by unidentified miscreants at Dhopadi village in Abhoynagar upazila on Thursday night. 
 
Upazila BNP called a half-day hartal from 6 am to 12 pm on Friday protesting the killing.

Almost all modes of vehicles, except rickshaws, went off the streets and most of the shops remained closed during the hartal.

Amid presence of police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), the strikers could not stage any violent protest in the upazila town.
