News - Mozena rejects notion about Yunus’ involvement in WB loan cancellation
Tangail, July 18 (UNB) - US Ambassador Dan Mozena on Wednesday said Nobel Laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus had no hand behind the cancellation of the World Bank’s loan for the Padma Bridge project.

The US envoy said this is a bilateral issue between the World Bank and the Bangladesh government, and Prof Yunus has no hand behind the WB’s decision.

The ambassador made the remark while talking to journalists at Madhupur in Tangail.

Mozena expressed his frustration as both sides could not reach an amicable solution for the project financing.

About the political situation, the US diplomat said all the political parties of the country should sit in dialogue on the caretaker government issue and should reach an understanding.

He hoped a free, fair and credible election with the participation of all political parties will be held in Bangladesh.

The ambassador also joined an opinion-exchange meeting with the community forests workers where Food and Disaster Management Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque was present as the chief guest.

Forests Conservator M Yunus Ali, Forests Conservator, central region, Zahir Hossain were also present at the programme held with Tangail DC M Bazlul Karim Chowdhury in the chair.

Divisional Forest officer Asit Ranjan Paul also spoke on the occasion.
