Dhaka, July 16 (UNB) – President Zillur Rahman on Monday unveiled the final report of the fifth population and housing census-2011 announcing that the country’s total population now stands at 15,25,18,015.

Of the total, the President said, the number of total male population is 7,63,50,518 while that of female 7,61,67,497, and the population growth is 1.37 percent.

President Zillur said the population census is carried out in the country after every 10 years and the first census was done in 1974 during the rule of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He mentioned that the second population census took place in 1981, while the third in 1991 and the fourth in 2001 and the fifth in March 2011.

Zillur Rahman formally unveiled the final report of the population and housing census and its district-wise reports by clicking the relevant website at Bangabhaban.

Later, President Zillur Rahman talked to the Deputy Commissioner of Kishoreganj through a videoconference and enquired about the population census reports.

In his brief address, Planning Minister AK Khondokar said the fifth population and housing census completed in March 19, 2011 by enumerators across the country.

He said digital maps and information and communication technologies have been used while conducting the population and housing census for the first time in the country.
