Govt trying to make Bangladesh dysfunctional state: Fakhrul
Dhaka, July 9 (UNB) – (UNB) - BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday alleged that the government is out to turn the country into a failed state.
“The government is very cautiously trying to make the country a failed and subservient state dependent on others as it doesn’t believe in welfare of Bangladesh,” he said.
Fakhrul came up with the allegation at a discussion titled ‘Reality of Bangladesh Politics, Future Leadership and Tarique Rahman’.
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), an associate student organisation of BNP, orgainsed the programme at the Engineers' Institute in the city.
Addressing the discussion, Fkahrul said the government due to its subservient foreign policy does not raise its voice when Indian Border Security Force (BSF) kills and tortures Bangladeshis along the border.
He said the government does not have any concern about people’s sufferings as their only plan is to cling to power.
“They’ve destroyed all the democratic institutions, made parliament ineffective and put democracy at stake just to perpetuate their power,” Fakhrul said.
Branding the government as fascist, the BNP spokesman urged the JCD men to get ready to oust it through a tougher movement and establish the leadership of Tarique Rahman after holding the next election under a caretaker government.
Describing Tarique as a symbol of democracy and independence, he said there is no alternative to the leadership of Tarique to build a happy and prosperous country.
Fakhrul also asked the JCD men to enlighten themselves with modern knowledge and introduce a trend of knowledge-base politics.
Chaired by JCD president Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, the programme was addressed, among others, by Prof Emajuddin Ahmed, ex-caretaker government adviser MA Majed, filmmaker Chashi Nazrul Islam, National Pres Club president Kamaluddin Sabuj, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Zainul Abedin and journalist Amanullah Kabir.
