Dhaka, July 4 (UNB) - The National Press Club on Wednesday declared nine journalists as persona-non-grata at the club premises for their involvement in an unwanted incident near the club on June 24.

They are Zahirul Islam Mamun, Keramat Ullah Biplob, Mahmudur Rahman, Nadira Kiron, Manosh Ghosh, SM Babu, Shawkat Milton, Mahfuz Rahman Mishu of ATN Bangla and Shamim Ahmed of Bhorer Kagoj.

The club also suspended the membership of Bhanuranjan Chakraborty for three months.

Chakraborty will be served with a show cause notice asking him to explain why he will not be expelled from the permanent membership of the club.

The decision came from a meeting of the managing committee of the club with its president Kamal Uddin Sabuj in the chair.

Press Club general secretary Syed Abdal Ahmed submitted a report on the untoward incident at the meeting.

The Press Club managing committee decided to take punitive action as per section 13 of the club constitution after holding an elaborate discussion on the report.

Journalist leader Jahangir Alam was attacked by a group of newsmen when he from a human chain programme at the National Press Club on June 24 blamed ATN Bangla chairman Mahfuzur Rahman for killing of journalist couple Sagar-Runi, demanded his arrest and also threatened to lay siege to his office.
