Dhaka, June 25 (UNB) – Lieutenant General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan on Monday took the charge as Chief of Staff of Bangladesh Army.
He took over the charge from outgoing army chief General Md Abdul Mubeen at a ceremony held at Army Headquarters in the capital at noon.
Earlier, a defense ministry release, issued on June 7 said, Lt Gen Iqbal Karim has been appointed as chief of army staff with effective from June 25.
The ceremony was attended by senior army officials including Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division.
Before taking over the charge outgoing army chief Gen Mubeen placed wreath at the memorial of army officers who died during the Liberation War in 1971. He was also given a guard of honor at the Army Officer's Club.
Gen Mubeen had been the army chief from June 15, 2009 to 25 June, 2012.
