Dhaka, June 22 (UNB) - President Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have given separate messages on the occasion of International Public Service Day that falls tomorrow (Saturday).
In his message, the President said: “I am pleased to learn that the ‘International Public Service Day-2012’ is going to be observed in a befitting manner under the auspices of Ministry of Public Administration. On this occasion, I convey my heartfelt felicitations to all the public servants of the republic for their immense contributions towards country’s development.”
He said an efficient, meritorious and top-notch civil service is key to smooth functioning and management. A merit-based public service system can ensure the achievement of sustainable development and play a pivotal role in fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of common people.
Zillur Rahman said a modern public service takes into account the needs of the citizens and that is exactly the type of thinking that is driving the government’s efforts in this regard. “I am optimistic that our public administration with the help of other stakeholders will work hard to build Bangladesh as middle income country by 2021.”
He urged the civil servants to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity keeping commitment to the public and the country
The President expressed the hope that the observance of the day will create awareness about the various service delivery introduced by the government. “I wish the observance of International Public Service Day- 2012 a success.”
In her message, the Prime Minister congratulated the public servants of the republic on the occasion of the International Public Service Day.
She said: “The observation of the day is recognition that democracy and successful governance are built on the foundations of a dedicated civil service committed to delivering citizen–focused services. It is in this sprit that the government has been working tirelessly to introduce bold and innovative administrative reforms aimed at maximizing the potential of our civil service.”
The Prime Minister expressed her belief that with enactment and implementation of the Civil Service Act, Bangladesh Civil Service would get a new threshold to become more pro-people, efficient, transparent and dynamic.
“I believe our public servants will keep continuing their efforts to meet the challenges of poverty alleviation, eradication of illiteracy and hunger and reduction of income disparity to turn the Bangladesh into a middle income country by the year 2021.”
She wished the International Public Service Day 2012 a success.
