Kushtia, June 21 (UNB) - At least 10 students of Kushtia Police Lines School and College were injured as they were allegedly beaten up by its principal for refusing to attend private coaching.
Students said principal Abu Dadra Mohammad Arif Billah punished them on Wednesday and Thursday morning as they did not attend coaching at the school as directed by him.
Sources said three of the injured students received treatment at General Hospital.
Meanwhile, guardians expressed concern over the incident and demanded exemplary punishment of the principal.
The government on Wednesday officially announced a policy restricting “coaching business” of teachers by preventing them from giving private tuition to students of their own institutions.
On June 14, the Ministry of Education finalised the guideline titled ‘Policy-2012 to stop teachers from doing coaching business in educational institutions’.
However, the High Court on January 13,2011 declared corporal punishment illegal and unconstitutional in all educational institutions throughout the country.
