Dhaka, June 20 (UNB) – Holy Shab-e-Barat, the night of salvation, will be observed on July 5 as the new moon for the month of Shaban was not sighted anywhere in the country on Wednesday evening.
The decision came at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee, held in the conference room of Islamic Foundation at Baitul Mokarram National Mosque in the evening.
Secretary of Religious Affairs Ministry and vice chairman of the committee Kazi Habibul Awal presided over the meeting.
The meeting reviewed reports and messages sent from across the country about non-appearance of the new moon in the skies of Bangladesh.
``As the moon of Shaban of 1433 Hijri was not sighted in the skies of Bangladesh on Wednesday the month of Rajab will end on Thursday after completing full 30 days and Holy Shaban month will begin on Friday``, a PID handout said on Wednesday.
It said Holy Lailatul Barat or Shab-e-Barat as widely known in the subcontinent will be observed at the night of July 5 (14th Shaban, 1433 Hijri).
