
Dhaka, June 18 (UNB) – The government has decided to procure 20,500 laptops from Telephone Shilpa Sangsta (TSS), a state-run telephone company, to introduce multimedia classrooms in the country’s educational institutions.
The Education Ministry signed an agreement to this effect with the TSS at the Secretariat on Monday in presence of Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and Posts and Telecommunications Minister Raziuddin Ahmed Raju.
ICT project director of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Abul Kalam Azad and managing director of Telephone Shilpa Sangsta Dr Abu Sayeed Khan inked the deal on behalf of their respective sides.
As per the deal, each of the laptops will be procured at Tk 53,326.
Education secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Posts and Telecommunications secretary Sunil Kanti Bosh, national project director of Access to Information (A2I) Programme M Nazrul Islam Khan and additional secretary Golam Faruk, among others, were present on the occasion.
Under the project, one laptop, a multimedia projector, one speaker and an internet modem will be provided to every education institution of secondary and higher secondary levels. A total of 20,500 teachers will be trained to make digital contents while some 4,745 teachers have already been trained under the project.
The digital equipment, including laptops, will be distributed to 13,700 secondary schools, 4,000 Dakhil madrasahs, 12,00 Alim madrasahs and 16,00 colleges.
