Dhaka, June 14 (UNB) – The government has a plan to modernize Dhaka and Rangpur zoos for making the public zoos more aesthetic, pleasurable and popular among the common people, Parliament was told Thursday.

“A DPP (Development Project Proposal) in this regard is under process at the Planning Commission,” Fisheries and Livestock Minister Abdul Latif Biswas told the House while responding to a tabled question of Apu Ukil (Women Seat-2).

He said a proposal for establishing an amusement park for children has also been included in the project.

Latif Biswas also said that a project is being implemented to collect rare animals for the Dhaka Zoo. “Under the project, 270 animals of 40 species will be collected.”

Responding to a scripted question of M Shafiqul Islam (Sirajganj-4), the Fisheries and Livestock Minister said the present government has so far recruited 3,421 people under his ministry and its various departments.

Of them, 1, 551 people were recruited under the revenue sector and 1,870 others under different development projects, he said.
