Dhaka, June 13 (UNB) - BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Wednesday condoled the death of Mehdi Hasan, an iconic ghazal singer of the Indian subcontinent.
Mehdi Hasn, who had long been suffering from various old-age diseases, passed away at a private hospital in Karachi at the age of 85 on Wednesday noon.
In a condolence message, Khaleda said, “A pale of gloom has descended on the subcontinent, including Pakistan, with the demise of the legendary ghazal maestro.”
Terming him a glowing star in the subcontinent’s music field, she said the vacuum created in the subcontinent’s music arena with the death of the immortal singer is irreparable.
The ex-premier said Mehdi Hasan established himself as one of the outstanding singers in the subcontinent by singing different types of songs in different languages, including Bangla, alongside ghazals.
The BNP chief prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
