Pirojpur, June 13 (UNB) – A woman and her minor daughter were chopped to death by a man at Bhaijora village in Mathbaria upazila on Tuesday night.

The deceased were identified as Nazma Begum, 35, wife of Yahia Khan, and their daughter Tabassum, 9, of the village.

Police and locals said Badol, 42, of the village stormed into the house of Yahia at about 9 pm and locked the door from inside. Yahia was not at home at that time.

Later, the assailants started chopping Nazma and Tabassum with sharp weapons.

Hearing screaming of the victims, locals rushed in and asked Badol to refrain from the acts. But he did not pay any heed to their words and continued to hack them.

Later, local people broke open the door and caught the criminal.

Badly injured Nazma succumbed to her injuries on the way to Mathbaria Upazila Health Complex while Tabassum on the way to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
 
On information, police recovered the bodies and arrested Badol.

Officer-in-charge of Mathbaria Police Station Sheikh M Abu Jahid said Badol was mentally retarded.  

Nazma’s father-in-law Habibur Rahman said Badol worked as a helper of a mason at their house a few days ago.
