Bagerhat, June 13 (UNB) - Local people caught a terrorist, gouged out his eyes and handed over him to police after mass beating at Nagerbazar in the district town early Wednesday morning.

The arrestee was identified as Mukul alias Manik, 35, son of Shah Alam Mia of Guabaria village in Morelganj upazila.

Sadar Model thana OC Moazzem Hossain said while two terrorists including Manik were preparing to fire on Municipality Councilor Mina Hasibul Hasan Shipon following a previous enmity they chased them at about 5am in the area.

Later, the local people after a hot chase caught Manik and beat him indiscriminately. At one stage the angry mob gouged out eyes of Manik, leaving him critically injured. His accomplice, however, managed to flee the scene.

On information, police rushed to the spot and arrested Manik. Police also recovered a revolver and five rounds of bullet from his possession.

Manik was first admitted to Sadar Hospital and later shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

A case was filed against him under Arms Act.
