Dhaka, June 12 (UNB) - Three officials of Bangladesh Railway have been suspended for their alleged involvement in corruption.
They are Hafizur Rahman, additional chief mechanical engineer (east zone), Golam Kibria, senior welfare officer, and Syed Ahmed, assistant commercial officer (Dhaka division).
Engineer Abu Taher, Director General of BR, told UNB that action against the trio was taken after two probe bodies found their involvement in malpractice in recruitment in Bangladesh Railway.
Departmental actions will also be taken against seven other officials by serving them with show-cause notices as their offences were minor, the DG said.
In the wake of a Tk 70 lakh cash haul scandal, the government formed the two probe bodies to investigate the recruitment process in the Railway.
On April 10, a probe committee, headed by Railway DG Abu Taher was formed and asked to submit its report within 15 working days. The government formed another three-member probe committee, headed by additional Director General (ADG-Op) of Bangladesh Railway M Shahjahan, on April 30, to investigate the alleged irregularities in the railway staff recruitment. The committees submitted their reports recently.
