Dhaka, June 12 (UNB) - A parliamentary body on Tuesday suggested taking necessary steps for filling up the vacant posts of headmasters in primary schools of the country.
At a meeting at Sangsad Bhaban, the parliamentary standing committee on Primary and Mass Education Ministry called for establishing schools in the villages where there is no school.
The 25th meeting of the committee was held with committee chairman Momtaz Begum in the chair.
The meeting suggested taking necessary steps for implementing the recommendations for upgrading the post of Assistant Thana Education Officer to first class one immediately.
The meeting called for bringing the dropout rate of primary students to zero level to make the country free from illiteracy by 2014.
It directed the authorities concerned to take steps for halting the recruitment of school-going children as workers to different mills and factories.
Committee members Primary and Mass Education Minister Afsarul Amin, Atiur Rahman Atique, Afaz Uddin Ahmed, Abdul Mannan, Talukder Mohammad Yunus and Khadiza Khatun attended the meeting.
