Dhaka, June 12 (UNB) - A group of gunmen stormed the Sarak Bhaban premises in the city on Tuesday afternoon and fired shots indiscriminately, leaving five people, including four contractors, injured.

Sources said a Sarak Bhaban staff, involved with a contracting firm, led the ‘terrorist’ attack.

The injured were identified as Shamim Shahriar, 40, also central publicity secretary of Swechchasebak League,Towhidul Islam, 34, Moshiur Rahhman, 32, M Ripon, and Zakir Hossain, 38, a driver of Sarak Bhaban. All the injured but Zakir are enlisted contractors of Road and Highways Department (RHD).

Witnesses said the thugs, numbering 40-50, entered the Sarak Bhaban compound in a private car, a microbus and 5-7 motorcycles at about 4:15 pm.

“The hooligans in a filmy style opened fire indiscriminately on a number of RHD contractors chatting near their association office and fled the scene without any resistance,“ said a spot account of the incident.

Contractor Shamim Shahriar received bullet injuries in his right leg while Touhidul Islam in his forehead, Moshiur Rahhman in his left chest, Ripon in his right hand and Zakir Hossain in his chest, leg and back side, hospital sources said.

They were being treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and out of danger, according to doctors.
