Dhaka, June 12 (UNB) - Sticking to his guns, a guerilla freedom fighter prosecution witness on Tuesday told the tribunal that slain Sheikh Mozaffar Ahmed along with his son, coming in a car from Raozan to Chittagong, was captured by occupation army at an intersection of three roads.
“I don’t know whether they were captured from the Cantonment area,” said PW-3 Sirajul Islam alias Shiru Banglaee while replying to a question by the defence counsel for war crimes accused BNP MP Salauddin Quader Chowdhury on the closing day of his cross-examination.
Shiru said he was not aware of the fact that the army had collected beforehand the photographs of victims Sheikh Mozaffar and his son. The PW admitted the he had heard from Capt Karim the killing incident in which Salauddin Quader Chowdhury had direct complicity in the murder in collaboration with the occupation army.
Brushing aside the defence suggestion, Shiru said, “It’s not true that he made evidence before the tribunal against the detained accused in the dock tutored by the investigation officer in the case.”
Dismissing another defence suggestion, PW Shiru, an author of 27 books, said, “I can’t tell the names of the pretty girls captured by the group of Salauddin Quader Chowdhury during the Liberation War in 1971 as vet to the occupation army for their carnal desire.”
Shiru said his commander Capt Karim, who witnessed the genocide hiding into a beel in April at Unasattarpara, a predominantly Hindu area under Raozan, led by Salauddin Quader Chowdhury along with some of his army sidekicks, did not tell the names of the 15-16 victims gunned down by the accused.
Denying the defence suggestion, the PW said, “It’s not true that being influenced by the government, I gave the evidence in a bid to destroy the political career of the accused and with a hope of getting a freedom fighter’s certificate.”
Earlier, investigation officer ASP M Helal Uddin was crossed-examined by the defence counsel for the detained accused Jamaat-e-Islami nayeb-e-ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee for the 20th day, which remained inconclusive.
