14 shops gutted by fire in Jamalpur

Jamalpur, June 10 (UNB) – At least 14 shops were gutted by a devastating fire at Jhaugara Bazar in Melandah upazila early Sunday.

Fire service sources said the fire originated from electric short circuit at Enamul’s mobile servicing and fertilizer shop of the bazaar and soon engulfed the adjoining 13 shops at about 12:10am.

On information, two firefighting units from Sadar and Melandah fire stations rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after two hours of frantic efforts with the help of local people.

The affected shop owners, in preliminary estimate, put the loss from the fire at about
 Tk 50 lakh.
