BEIJING, JUNE 9 (AP/UNB) - Chinese state media say China's domestic auto market has improved as sales rose nearly 16 percent to 1.61 million units in May.
The official Xinhua News Agency says that total auto sales in the first five months of the year increased 1.7 percent to 8.02 million units. Xinhua cited figures from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, which released the latest data Saturday.
Xinhua reported that 6.33 million passenger cars were sold during the January-May period, up 5.48 percent year on year.
The association says on its official website that the data show the Chinese auto market is stabilizing. There was a significant slowdown in the market earlier this year.
