Habiganj, June 09 (UNB) - Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday said that a new special train service will be introduced on Sylhet-Chittagong route.
Quader, who is also in-charge of Railways Ministry, said that various steps have taken up for modernization of railway and ensuring better services for its passengers.
He made the remarks while visiting the Shayestaganj Railway Junction in the morning.
Admitting crisis in the sector, he said that 146 railway stations of the country are now closed. It would require 12,000 employees to reopen those stations, he said.
Quader said stringent measures have been taken to stop black marketing of railway tickets, adding that now it’s very important to strictly maintain the schedule of trains.
Efforts are underway to bring back the past glory of railway by making it as a passenger-friendly transport, Quader said.
The minister made a stopover at Shayestaganj station on his way to Sylhet from Dhaka by Parabat train.
