Dhaka, June 9 (UNB) - Law Minister Shafique Ahmed has said the standoff between parliament and the judiciary will be resolved with the Speaker’s ruling.
“The standoff will go with the Speaker’s ruling,” the Law Minister said while talking to journalists after attending a workshop here on Saturday.
Asked about formation of the Supreme Judicial Council, the minister parried the question just saying the Speaker’s ruling will bring the solution.
“Our constitution has mentioned the jurisdiction of the judiciary, the executive and parliament. Everyone should discharge his or her duties within their jurisdiction showing respects to each other,” he said.
Earlier, addressing a workshop, Shafique said a new child law will be enacted to ensure the welfare of children.
The UN Convention on Rights of the Child has been included in the law. “Its draft has been prepared and the cabinet already approved the law. The final draft will be placed before the cabinet following recommendations from civil society and others,” he said.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and Save the Children jointly organised the workshop titled ‘Children Law: Reform on Children Trial System’ at city’s Brac Inn Centre.
Social Welfare Secretary Ranjit Kumar Biswas, Women and Children Affairs secretary Tarik-ul-Islam, among others, spoke at the programme held with NHRC Chairman Dr Mizanur Rahman in the chair.
