10 including 3 cops injured in Sherpur clash

Sherpur, June 7 (UNB) - At least 10 people, including three policemen, were injured in a clash between two groups over land dispute at Rajnagar in Nalitabari upazila on Wednesday night.

Locals said there was a long-running dispute between Sharafat Ali and Faruk Mia of the village over the ownership of 18 decimal lands in Tengrakhali area of the upazila.

An altercation ensued in the evening when Sharafat Ali along with his supporters went to take possession of the disputed land. Later, Faruk Mia informed the matter to Nalitabari Police Station.

On information, police rushed to the spot and evicted the Sharafat’s men from the possession of the land. Later, both the groups equipped with lethal weapons attacked each other leaving 10 people including three policemen injured.

Of the injured, constables Biswajit Saha, 38, and Tofazzal Hossain, 28, were admitted to Nalitabari upazila health complex while ASI Ramprasad Saha, 32, was shifted to Mymensing Medical College Hospital.

Police arrested one Omar Ali, 75, of the village in this connection.

A case was filed.
