News - CPB concerned over ‘US move to send 7th fleet to Ctg’
Dhaka, June 2 (UNB) – President of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) Manjurul Ahsan Khan and general secretary Mujahidul Islam Selim have expressed grave concern over the reported US move to send its 7th Fleet towards Chittagong Seaport.

In a joint statement on Saturday, they said, “Different Bangladesh media reported that the US 7th Fleet is heading towards Chittagong port which is worrying us.”

“The same fleet had been sent to Bangladesh in 1971 to help the Pakistani occupation forces foil our struggle for independence. And the news of sending it again can be regarded as a conspiracy against the country,” the statement said.

The CPB leaders said the USA has a base at Diego Garcia in Indian Ocean and it has already reinforced its military presence over there.

“Our independence and sovereignty will be at risk if the USA tries to set up its base at Chittagong port,” the statement said, adding, “Multinational companies now have set their greedy eyes on our natural resources and are trying to capture those.”

It said, “The USA’s interference on our national politics will increase further and make our politics more unstable with the installation of US base at Chittagong port.”

The CPB leaders called upon all to resist the USA move unitedly.
