Keraniganj, May 30 (UNB) – Twelve people, including 10 members of a family, were killed and 20 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a microbus at Abdullahpur under South Keraniganj Police Station here this (Wednesday) morning.

Ten of the deceased were identified as one and a half years old Moni, Mina, 30, Rosy, 25, Lenin, 28, Baby, 20, Lopa, 18, Iyaj, 7, Babu, 25, Khushi, 15, Sohel Rana, 30, and 15-month-old Tazria. They were the family members of Zakir Sarder, Sakhipur thana BNP president and Arshinagar union parishad chairman. Khushi was their domestic help while Sohel Rana a driver of Dhaka City Corporation. 

The other deceased could not be identified yet. 

Police and witnesses said the Dhaka-bound bus of 'Shakura Paribahan' from Barisal collided with the Shariatpur-bound microbus in front of Kadampur Shrine on Dhaka-Mawa Highway at about 6:30 am, leaving 10 dead on the spot and others injured.

Two of the injured succumbed to their injuries at Square Hospitals Ltd in the capital.

The tragedy struck the deceased when they were going to Bhedarganj upazila of Shariatpur district from Panthapath of the capital. All the deceased were the occupants of the microbus while the injured of the bus.

On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Mitford Hospital morgue for autopsy.
