Dhaka, May 28 (UNB) – The Parliamentary Committee on Land Ministry has recommended to investigate reported leasing out of Forest Department lands to individuals by deputy commissioners of Chittagong and Cox`s Bazar to set up fish enclosures.

The recommendation came at the 33rd meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Land Ministry, chaired by committee chairman AKM Mojammel Haque, held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Monday.

The meeting discussed in detail land property under the occupation of East West Property, a private land developer, distribution of dwelling houses built on plots at capital`s Bhashntek slum, Land Reform Board, properties under Forest Department and publishing a gazette containing the list of lands registered as forest land.

The meeting strongly recommended that an inquiry committee be formed, headed by the secretary of the Land Ministry, to investigate leasing of lands to individuals by the DCs of Chittagong and Cox`s Bazar districts for setting up shrimp enclosure on forest land.

The meeting recommended taking legal action against those involved in the alleged illegal leasing out of forest lands in the two districts.

Recommendation was also made to take steps to continue revenue collection activities at sand quarries across the country for the interest of the country`s economy.

Decisions taken at the 32nd meeting were placed at today`s meeting which discussed the progress made in implementing the decisions.

Committee members Land Minister Rezaul Karim Hira, State Minister for Land Mostafizur Rahman, Shahab Uddin, Ranjit Kumar Roy, Benazir Ahmed and secretary of Land Ministry Mokhlesur Rahman were, among others, present.
