News - Result of govt repression on opposition will be its shameful exit: Tariqul
Dhaka, May 21 (UNB) – Main opposition BNP on Monday said the inevitable consequence of the government’s “repression on opposition will be a mass upsurge and its shameful exit.”

Addressing a press conference at the Nayapaltan central office of BNP in the afternoon, party’s front ranking leader Tariqul Islam said that the government has “resorted to a wrong course” to weaken the current mass movement through arresting opposition leaders and workers by filing “false” cases.

“Its inevitable consequence will be a mass upsurge and shameful exit of the government. It is now matter of time,” he said.

The BNP leader expressed his anger following the sending of the party’s joint secretary general Barrister Mahbubuddin Khokon MP to jail today in a “false, fabricated and politically motivated” case.

He said that even after granting of temporary bail from the High Court and lower court, Khokon’s bail was rejected while he went to appear before the magistrate court.

Tariqul Islam demanded immediate unconditional release of the arrested leaders of BNP and its allies.

Replying to a question, he said they want to oust the government through peaceful movement.

BNP leaders Nazrul Islam Khan, Abdullah Al Noman, M Shahjahan, Zainul Abdin Farroque, Abdus Salam, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Abdus Salam Azad and Rafiq Shikder were, among others, present at the press conference.
