
Dhaka, May 18 (UNB) - President Zillur Rahman on Friday urged the museum authorities to collect the samples of the country’s glorious traditions, heritages, folk arts and crafts.
“Different types of boats, colourful arts and crafts including nokshikantha, brass works, clay and wooden works, terracotta and Shitalpati are the parts of our traditions,” he said.
The President made the remarks while inaugurating a two-day programme marking International Museum Day-2012, at Nolinikanta Bhottashali Gallery at Bangladesh National Museum in the city.
Speaking at the function as chief, President Zillur Rahman said many folk arts and crafts of the country are on the verge of extinction. “I urge the museum authorities to collect samples of these arts and crafts.”
The President also urged the people of the new generation to acquire knowledge about the country’s glorious history and tradition visiting the museums.
He said the visiting the museums people would be able to know about Bangalee’s heroic deeds, great language movement, liberation war and democratic progress and values.
