Dhaka, May 17 (UNB) - Huawei Chairman Sun Yafang received 2012 World Telecommunication and Information Society award.
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) handed over the prestigious award to Sun Yafang on Wednesday to mark ITU`s 147th founding anniversary at a ceremony in Geneva, a press release said on Thursday.
Along with Yafang, Argentine president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and academy award-winning actor and founder of the Geena Davis Institute of Gender in Media, Geena Davis also won this award.
The theme for the this year`s World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) focused on ‘Women and Girls in ICT’.
It was aimed at extending digital opportunities by providing avenues of advancement to professional women at the highest level of decision-making, and by encouraging young women to seek new careers in this sector.
