Kashem Jute Mill catches fire; Jute worth Tk 2 cr gutted

Chittagong, May 10 (UNB) - Kashem Jute Mill, a privately-owned jute mill situated at Keshabpur in Sitakunda, caught fire on Thursday.
The fire gutted jute worth Tk 2 crore stored at godowns in the vicinity of the mill.
Police, firefighters and mill sources said the fire broke out at a godown of the mill at about 9 am and raged for over three hours.
Several firefighting units from Kumira Fire Station and the city rushed in on information and tames the fla after three and half hours of frantic efforts with the help of police and locals at 12-30 pm.
Mill machinery, parts and accessories and several thousand maund jute worth Tk 2 crore were gutted, the sources said.
They said the cause of the fire could nor be known immediately.
An inquiry committee has been formed to ascertain the cause of the devastating fire, they added.
