Dhaka, May 9 (UNB) - A parliamentary watchdog on Wednesday suggested taking actions within 30 days against those responsible for paying money against six works though there had been no tender in this regard.
The parliamentary standing committee on Public Estimate at its 94th meeting at Sangsad Bhaban also recommended taking departmental actions against those who failed to disconnect the lines of bill defaulters despite an audit objection that non-realisation of arrears caused financial loss to the government
The meeting suggested realising the arrears from the defaulters within 30 days.
Chaired by committee chairman Dr. Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, the meeting asked the chief accounts officer to carry out pre-audit as per the changed law and inform the matter to Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).
The meeting suggested looking into the audit objection that cited a loss of over Tk 26.10 crore due to failure to contain the amount of system loss and giving power connection against property.
Committee members Prof. Ali Ashraf, MK Anwar, Mohammad Iamaj Uddin, Dhirendra Chandra Devnath and Khan Tipu Sultan attended the meeting.
