3 Sylhet BNP leaders arrested

Sylhet, Apr 25 (UNB) - Police on Wednesday arrested three local BNP leaders in connection with two cases filed for attacking Bishwanath Police Station, injuring cops, arson and vandalism during hartal on Monday.

The arrestees are: Mojaheed Ali, vice president of Sylhet district unit BNP, Jalal Uddin, president of Bishwanath upazila unit BNP and Abul Kalam, former organizing secretary of Bishwanath BNP. They were picked up from Mirer Maidan (playground) in the afternoon.

With this a total of 61 were held in connection with the two cases filed against 8,000 named/unnamed people for attacking Bishwanath thana and Upazila Parishad Complex, obstructing government duties, injuring cops, vandalizing government properties and torching vehicles during Monday`s day-long shutdown.

Shakhawat Hossain, Police Super of Sylhet said the three are accused in both cases.

The Monday`s mayhem left three people killed and over 100, including 10 cops, injured, many of them seriously.
