News - Resignation not enough: BNP
Dhaka, Apr 16 (UNB) - BNP front-ranking leader Barrister Moudud Ahmed on Monday said resignation of Railways Minister Suranjit Sengupta is not enough.

“It’s not only Sengupta but also the entire government should be held responsible for the corruption,” Moudud told UNB over phone soon after the Railways Minister stepped down.

“Because,” the former Law Minister said, “As per the country’s constitution, it’s the Cabinet, not any individual minister, is collectively accountable to people and Parliament.”

He said there has to be all through investigation by a judicial enquiry commission, headed by a retired Chief Justice, to punish those involved in this latest episode of corruption.
“It’s only the tip of the iceberg…we’ve been complaining for the last three years about the massive corruption by this government,” the BNP standing committee member said.

On Sunday, BNP lawmaker Moudud on behalf of the party MPs demanded resignation of Suranjit Sengupta within 48 hours.

Sengupta announced his resignation at a press conference at the Rail Bhaban around 1:20 pm today (Monday) following the seizure of huge money from his APS’ car on April 9.
