
Munshiganj, Mar 20 (UNB) – A young man was shot dead by bandits during a robbery at Keotchira village in Srinagar upazila early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Jahedur Rahman Babu, 21, son of late Sirajul Islam.
Officer-in-charge of Srinagar Police Station Mizanur Rahman said a gang of 7-8 robbers entered the house of Joynal Abedin Mridha of the village cutting window grilles at about 3:00 am.
They took the house inmates hostage at gunpoint and started looting valuables. In the meantime, Joynal’s sister-in-law informed the Imam of a local mosque of the robbery over mobile phone who later conveyed it to others, including Babu.
Babu along with local people encircled the house. Sensing danger, the dacoits opened fire on them, leaving Babu injured critically. The bandits, however, managed to make away with 3 tolas of gold ornaments and Tk 15,000 in cash.
Babu was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his bullet wounds later.
