Dhaka, Feb 25 (UNB) - State Minister for Home Affairs Advocate Shamsul Hoque Tuku on Saturday said efforts are on to track down the BDR jawans who have been on the run since the BDR massacre on February25-26 in 2009.

Twenty BDR jawans remained absconding after the BDR carnage inside its Pilkhana headquarters when at least 74 people, including 57 army officials deputed from Bangladesh Army were brutally killed.

“They might have fled abroad. The government has been trying to find out the absconding jawans,” Tuku said after a milad mahfil inside Pilkhana at noon.

The milad mahfil was organised as part of the programmes marking the 3rd anniversary of the BDR mutiny.

The junior minister said the trial by special tribunals, formed to try mutineers under BDR acts, have almost been completed.

Tuku said the trial of the BDR mutiny will be completed within the tenure of this government as the trial has been continued speedy lawfully.

Earlier in the morning, the programmes, taken marking the 3rd anniversary of the BDR carnage, started with the placing of wraths at the memorial built at Banani Graveyard for the slain army officers.

Representatives of the President and the Prime Minister placed wraths first and then State Minister for Home Shamsul Haque Tuku, the chiefs of three services and Maj Gen Anwar, the Home Secretary, the Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh paid tributes respectively.

Later, family members of the slain army officers and their relatives and friends paid their tributes.
