Khulna, Feb 13 (UNB) - Khulna city mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque has termed reports published in different newspapers on corruption by a section of corporation staff baseless.

The mayor without investigating or forming an inquiry committee on the alleged corruption in appointment of staff to the corporation threatened to file case against the journalists who filed the reports.

In the reports, a female councilor and the APS of the mayor blamed each other for the graft.

Addressing a press conference at Nagar Bhaban on Monday, the mayor challenged the journalists saying that they would not be able to prove any corruption or malpractice by the KCC officers and employees.

He, however, rebuked a KCC official as trees worth lakhs of Taka were felled from two graveyards without calling any tender. The incident was divulged while he replying to a query of a reporter.

Shahida Begum, AL councilor from reserved seat-2, accused Gopal Kumar Shaha, APS of the mayor, of indulging in various wrongdoings and told journalists that she will unmask the faces of corrupt elements in the corporation by holding a press conference soon.
