SC extends stay on HC order granting bail to Pintu in BDR mutiny case

Dhaka, June 16 (UNB)-Extending its stay for a week on the operation of the High Court order granting bail to former BNP MP Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu, an accused in the BDR mutiny case, the Appellate Division today asked the government to file regular leave petition in the meantime.

After a brief hearing on the government petition, the Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice M Muzammel Hossain passed the order.

On June 9, the chamber court upon a government plea stayed the June 7 High Court order that had granted bail for six months to Pintu in BDR mutiny case.

Pintu was arrested by the Detective police from in front of the High Court mazar in June 2009. Later, he was shown arrested in the BDR mutiny case.

A total of 74 people, including 57 army officers, were killed during the February 25-26 BDR carnage in 2009 inside the BDR headquarters at Peelkhana.

Barrister Rafique-ul Huq and Khandker Mahbub Hossain appeared for Pintu. Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the state and .Anisul Huq for BDR.
