Dhaka, Mar 23 (UNB) - The proposal for amicable settlement on the issue of Dr Muhammad Yunus was given by the government at the initial stage and it still stands.
“The government is ready in this regard, but it is Dr Muhammad Yunus who will have to come forward,” said a press release issued by the Banking and Financial Institution Division of the Finance Ministry protesting a report published in different dailies today (Wednesday).
The report said that the Finance Minister had dismissed the news of the Prime Minister’s initiative to reach settlement on the issue of Dr Yunus.
Terming the newspaper report as incorrect, the press release signed by Banking Division Joint Secretary Gokul Chand Das, said that the Finance Minister only commented on whether there any committee was formed headed by the Finance Minister at the Prime Minister’s directive, not about settlement.
It said the Finance Minister’s remark in this regard is very clear and he had conveyed the same the day when US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Robert O Blake, US
ambassador to Bangladesh James F Moriarty and former World Bank president James Wolfensohn met with him.
“That remark was that from the beginning we wanted a respectable settlement and are still looking for that opportunity,” the press added.
