Bogra, July 23 (UNB) – Ten activists of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) were injured as they came under attack by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SZRMC) campus on Monday. College unit JCD president Dr MM Nasimzzaman and joint secretary Jahid Hassan were among the injured. They received treatment at different hospitals and clinic. Witnesses said a group of BCL activists swooped on Nasimuzzaman and 19 other JCD leaders and workers when they were hoslding a meeting at the cafeteria of SZRMC in the afternoon, triggering a clash. A chase and counter chase followed and soon the two rival groups of students called in outsiders to join the fight which escalated to the SZRMC dormitories. At one stage JCD activities retreated and BCL drove all JCD activists from their respective rooms at student hostels after mercilessly beating them, leaving 10 JCD men injured. The district unit JCD secretary general Sahabul Alam Piplu alleged that they came under BCL attack and were beaten by them over a trifling matter. He demanded that authorities take immediate step to take the BCL attackers to book and ensure safe return to the dormitories by the inmates (JCD men) who were evicted from their roomd by BCL activists and outsiders. Denying the allegation district BCL general secretary Mashrafe Hero told UNB that it was JCD which attacked BCL college unit president Russel as he went to the cafeteria and enquired about a clandestine meeting being held there by a group of JCD men. A tense situation was prevailing on the campus.
