Dhaka, June 25 (UNB) – Speakers at a seminar here on Monday stressed the need for setting up a special cell to promote the Textile Lab established by the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI). “The authorities concerned should form a special cell involving the Industries, Commerce, Foreign Ministries and businessmen to publicise the activities of Textile Lab,” president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin told the seminar. BSTI and Unido jointly organised the seminar titled ‘Promotion of Accredited Textile Laboratory of BSTI’ at its head office at Tejgaon in the city. Vice president of Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) MA Zaher and BSTI director general AK Fazlul Ahad, among others, spoke at the seminar. Speaking as the chief guest, Mohiuddin said the Textile Lab has already got accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) in India, which is a great achievement for Bangladesh. He assured of BGMEA’s all-out support to promote the lab and ensure its international standard service. Terming the textile and garment as the highest revenue-earning sectors in the country, MA Zaher said, “The buyers are now more aware of the RMG and textile products. So, it’s essential to ensure the quality of products prior to export. Therefore, we need a lab of international standard to test our products.” He said if the exporters and importers can avail of testing service from the Textile Tab, their products will be more acceptable in the international market.
